Hoosick – Charles W. Williams, 99, passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2011, at the Hoosick Falls Health Center in Hoosick Falls, NY, where he had resided the past three years.
Born on September 19, 1912, he was the son of Andrew L. and Elizabeth (McGee) Williams. He was raised by George and Katherine Schuster from the age of five.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of sixty-seven years, Elsie (Gardner) Williams, his two sons, Robert W. and wife Janet and Charles Andrew (Butch) and wife Kathy, as well as four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Charles went to local schools and began working at Haynes Ford in 1937 until 1941 when he was drafted into the United States Army. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He returned to work for Haynes Ford until September 1950 at which time he began a new job at the VA Hospital in Albany, NY, where he was in charge of the motor pool until 1959. Then he worked at the General Services Administration in Albany until retiring in 1976.
He was a member of the Hoosick Volunteer Fire Department for sixty years, and he was Fire Commissioner for fourteen years. He enjoyed being a custodian for voting machines for ten years. Charles was an avid bowler and enjoyed classic cars and spending time with his family.
Funeral services were Tuesday, September 27, at 12 pm from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial followed the service at the Hoosick Rural Cemetery. Relatives and friends called at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10 am until the start of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hoosick Fire Department or the Hoosick Falls Health Center through the funeral home.
