Jeffrey W. Cottrell

Walloomsac – Jeffrey W. Cottrell, 46, passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2011, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT. He had resided on Cottrell Road in Walloomsac, NY, with his wife Mary (Grill) Cottrell and their children Justin, Ryan, Lauren and Brooke Cottrell.
Born on April 29, 1965, in Bennington, VT, Jeffrey was the son of Margaret (Lavin) Cottrell of Walloomsac, and the late George Cottrell. He was affectionately known as Smiley and Newt. Jeffrey graduated from Hoosick Falls Central School and was employed at the school as a custodian at the time of his death. Jeffrey enjoyed golfing and working on the family farm. He thoroughly enjoyed the recent family trip to Walt Disney World and camping with his boys while they were in Boy Scouts.
Survivors other than his wife, children and mother include his sisters, Terri Cottrell of Seattle, WA, Pam Cottrell and Laura Baker and husband Paul, all of Hoosick Falls, NY, his brothers, Edward Cottrell of PA, G. Michael Cottrell and wife Missy, Mark Cottrell and wife Wendy and Gerald Cottrell, all of Hoosick Falls, his in-laws, Walter and Florence Grill of DeLancey, NY, John and Kathi Grill of Watervliet, NY, Christopher and Laura Grill of East Greenbush, NY, and Pamela and Wayne Metlicke of Delhi, NY. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jeffrey is pre-deceased by a brother, Gary Lee Cottrell. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
Funeral services were Thursday, September 15, at 10 am from St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. Relatives and friends called at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, on Wednesday from 4 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to either the JRLB Cottrell Educational Fund or the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad through the funeral home.
