John P. Capano

Hoosick Falls – John P. Capano, 84, passed away on August 25, 2011, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT. He had resided at the Wood Bridge Apartments in Hoosick Falls, NY, with his wife Jeanne (Murphy) Capano.
Born on June 25, 1927, in Hoosick Falls, John was the son of the late Daniel and Mary (Liporace) Capano. He attended St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls, and in 2001 he received his high school diploma through a government program for WW II Veterans. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during WW II.
John and his family owned and operated Capano’s Market on Elm Street and later sold electronics at the same location. He was a member of the American Legion, the Derby Club, the Eagles and the Hoosick Falls Country Club, all in Hoosick Falls. John was very active at St. Mary’s Academy volunteering for many different jobs and functions.
Survivors, other than his wife Jeanne, include three sisters, Evelyn LaPorte of Hoosick Falls, Anne Pappas of Gansevoort, NY, and Mary Jane Camanzo of Schenectady, NY. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. John is pre-deceased by his son, Alan Capano, a sister, Lena Sargood, and a brother, Joe Capano.
Funeral services will be Saturday, October 1, at 2 pm from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the care of the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Academy through the funeral home.
