Berlin-based Our Valley Community Farmers’ Market (OVCFM) will be closing its 2011 Market Season earlier than expected, Market Manager Trish Gerstel has announced. The decision, she said, had a lot to do with Tropical Storm Irene: “Unfortunately, the storm brought a significant amount of crop damage. Even those crops that weren’t flooded suffered from the excessive rain.” Gerstel herself lost a crop of cucumbers and several squash plants.
Gerstel is now concentrating on the 2012 Market Season, with hopes of adding more local businesses to the roster. “OVCFM has garnered a lot of interest this year, and I’m looking forward to seeing more vendors next season. There certainly is a demand.”
Our Valley Community Farmers’ Market is located at 18 Brimmer Farm Road in the town of Berlin, New York. The market offers products grown and made in the Taconic Valley. More information can be found online at www.ourvalleycfm.org, or by contacting Trish Gerstel at ourvalleycfm@live.com.
