The Stephentown Republicans met in Caucus Monday evening to select their candidates for the November election of Town officials. With Tammy Madden presiding and Susan Gardner acting as Secretary, the group of 31 party members chose Larry Eckhardt to run for reelection for the Town Supervisor post. Eckhardt’s was the only name placed in nomination from the floor.
There are two 4-year seats up for election on the Town Council, currently occupied by Mark Prescott, a Republican, and Bill Jennings, a Democrat. Prescott has declined to run for reelection. The Republicans chose as their candidates Jason Guilbeault, nominated by Lorri Parisi, and John Meekins, nominated by Larry Eckhardt.
The only position contested was that for Town Clerk. Patricia Gallup, who recently resigned from that post, nominated the current Town Clerk, Stephanie Wagar, who had been her Deputy since last January. Alysia Parisi nominated her mother, Lorri Parisi. A vote was taken and the result of the ballot count reported to Madden, who announced that Stephanie Wagar was the winner. Madden declined to reveal the actual count.
Aldy Goodermote was nominated to run for another term as Highway Superintendent and Ruth Rieger for Tax Collector, both were nominated without opposition.
