Alexander Schmigel

Hoosick Falls – Alexander Schmigel, 88, passed away suddenly on Saturday, October 15, 2011, at his residence on Center Street in Hoosick Falls, NY. He had resided there with his grandson Louis Schmigel and Michele Hayner. He was the husband of the late Regina (La Magdeleine) Schmigel who died in 1996.
Born on May 6, 1923, in Brooklyn, NY, Alex was the son of the late Edward and Pauline (Kulick) Schmigel. He attended schools in Hoosick Falls and was a veteran of the United States Army. He owned and operated Schmigel Excavating in Hoosick Falls with his grandson Louis. Alex was a member of the V.F.W and Eagles, both in Hoosick Falls. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and metal scraping.
Survivors include his daughters, Marie Davock with Elwyn Case, Janice Danforth and Valerie Brenenstuhl and husband Robert, all of Hoosick Falls, nine grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He is pre-deceased by five brothers, Edward, John, Emil, Frederick and Tim Schmigel.
Funeral services are Friday, October 21, at 11 am from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. Relatives and friends called at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 7 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad through the funeral home.
