Carr’s OT Goal Gives Panthers Victory

October 14, 2011 By eastwickpress

by Ryan Mosher
Hoosick Falls opened its season by losing three of their first four games, including the season opener 2-1 at Schuylerville. Recently the Panthers have turned their season around, winning three straight heading into Wednesday’s game with Schuylerville.
In the first half, the Panthers struck first when junior Chris Lacroix scored on a pass from PJ Priore. The game went back and forth the rest of the first half. Both teams had scoring opportunities, but it wasn’t until just five minutes left in the half that someone did score. On a Panther corner kick, the ball sailed just over the outstretched hands of the Schuylerville goalie onto the head of Alex Labarge. The headed ball went into the goal, giving Hoosick Falls a 2-0 lead.
In the second half, things went south for the Panthers. The Black Horses played better, controlling the ball on their side of the field for most of the half. Less than ten minutes into the half, Schuylerville closed the gap with a goal. With twelve minutes remaining, they tied the game 2-2. They had several chances in the closing minutes to clinch the victory, but a couple of close calls and a shot off the goal post did not go their way.

So it was for overtime to settle this Wasaren League match up. Two 10 minute periods with the first goal ending the game. The first period went by with no big scoring chances for either team. With 2:30 left in the game, Tyler Carr took the ball from the sideline directly towards the goal. Just in front of the keeper he drilled the ball home, sending the Panthers to victory. This is their fourth straight win and brings their record to 6-4-1 on the season.
