Leo Thomas Bruns Sr.

Grafton – Leo Thomas Bruns Sr., 76, formerly of Grafton, NY, and most recently of Troy, NY, passed away peacefully at home on September 29, 2011, after a brief illness.
Born in Johnsonville, NY, on May 10, 1935, Leo was the son of the late Frederick and Mary (Pemrick) Bruns. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1962. He was recipient of the National Defense Service Medal. Leo was employed by the former General Electric Plant in Waterford, NY, for thirty years. During this time, he was warehouse supervisor and a shop steward for the IUE Local 359, Buildings 42 and 43.
In addition to his parents, Leo is pre-deceased by his wife, Katherine Marie (Dooley) Bruns, who died in 2007. He is survived by five sons, Leo Jr. and wife Georgann Bruns of Troy, Daniel Bruns Sr. of Brunswick, NY, Francis and wife Catherine Bruns of Grafton, Sean Bruns of Waterford and Richard and wife Elisa Bruns of Troy, two sisters, Theresa and husband Gilbert Pratt of Easton, NY, and Jeanne and husband Earl Speanburg of Johnsonville. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by three sisters, Edna Hunt, Florence Russell and Gertrude Hunt, and one brother, Frederick Bruns. Leo enjoyed spending time with his family, his friends and his constant companion, his dog Odie. He will be missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.
Relatives and friends called at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY, from 2 to 7 pm on Sunday, October 2. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, October 8, at 10 am from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice, Inc., 295 Valley View Boulevard, Rensselaer, 12144, or the charity of your choice through the funeral home.
