2011 Lady Panthers Are Regional Soccer Champions

November 18, 2011 By eastwickpress

Hoosick Falls Takes Regional Title With a 5-0 Win Over Tupper Lake

by Gail Delurey and Bea Peterson

With the Regional Championship victory against Section X’s Tupper Lake on Friday, November 11, the Hoosick Falls Girls Soccer Team heads for the final four State championship this weekend in Cortland. The neat part about winning the Regional 5-0 was that every player on the Hoosick Falls team had time in that game.
At practice on Monday Coach Tom Husser said, “This is the third time in six years we’ve made the finals. That’s pretty neat.” He added, “Our goal all season has been going to States. Now the rest is gravy.”
“We’ve been playing soccer for three months,” said Husser. “We started August 22, and it seems like it was just two weeks ago. Actually it’s a quarter of their school year.”
Hoosick Falls’ record to date is 19-1-1. The team is ranked #2 in the State. “The girls are excited,” said Husser. “They are going to Courtland by coach, not a school bus.”

Seniors Emma Fricke, Meaghan McKee, Alyssa Surdam and Maritza Gonzalez said they are very excited about going to States. “We came in thinking we wanted this, and we did it,” said Fricke. “It’s a great way to go out our senior year said McKee. Three of them hope to play soccer in college. “We will never forget this season,” said Surdam.
“We’re close as a team, on and off the field,” said Surdam. “We’re a big family.”

Senior Meg McKee, #10, has shattered the HFCS record for career goals. To date she has an astounding 63. Photo by Gail Delurey.

“Just a bunch of sisters,” added McKee. “We’ll always stay close.” The four nodded their agreement.
Husser said McKee has shattered the previous HFCS all time leading scorering record set by Sarah Vincent with 52 goals. “Meg already has 63 career goals. That’s 20 percent more than the old record. And we hope she gets a few more against Tully on Saturday.”
The team leaves for Cortland from HFCS on Friday at 9:30 am.
