Tom Allison will present “A Steamboat World” on Tuesday, November 22, at 7 pm at the Poestenkill Historical Society’s November meeting held in the Poestenkill Town Hall (RT 351).
Once the Hudson River was the commercial life blood of the region. Tom weaves the age of sail and steam together with the life and times of Samuel and Thomas Schuyler. Both men made significant contributions to the economy. Beginning with sloops and small passenger steamboats, their company grew into the largest steam towboat company in this part of the country. Early photographs and newspaper clippings illustrate a very different river from the one we know today.
The public is welcome to this free program. Refreshments will be provided by Lori Winslow. For further information, contact Pat at 283-5223.
The Poestenkill Historical Society will also have the book of letters from Marcus Peck, local Civil War soldier, for sale at the program.
