Stephentown – Arthur J. Schinzel, 96, of Valley View Road, Stephentown, NY, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, October 29, 2011, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was the devoted husband of the late M. Edythe Pease Schinzel to whom he was married for 63 years. They were married on August 8, 1944.
Born on March 6, 1915, in Manhattan, NY, Arthur was the son of the late Karol and Anna Schmidt Schinzel.
He attended Stuyvesant High School. Art was a World War II Army veteran serving in the European Theater. He received two Bronze stars for serving in the Battle of the Bulge and the Battle of the Rhineland. He was honorably discharged as an Ammunition Corporal. He retired in 1980 from the Schaeffer-Eaton Company in Pittsfield, MA. Prior to working at Eaton, he was a dairy farmer and a member of the Stephentown Federated Church.
Art enjoyed gardening, watching movies and wrestling, tending to his animals and spending time with his loving family. His smile and sense of humor will be greatly missed by all. Besides his loving wife and parents, Arthur is pre-deceased by a brother, Rudolph, and a sister-in-law, Ellie Pierson.
Survivors include his daughters, Marcia A. Smaldone of Clifton Park, NY, Carolyn and husband Zeb Gokey of Grafton, NY, and Linda and husband Tom Secor of Melrose, NY, his grandchildren, Joseph A. Reynolds, Melaney and husband Rich Moorhead, Tammy and husband Richard Moore and Adrienne Gundrum, his great-grandchildren, Toby Goodermote, Colby and Evan Davendonis, Samantha and Rebecca Moore, Malik and Acelyn Plouffe and Rich, Christopher and Darian Moorhead, his niece, Linda McLaughlin, his nephew, Douglas Pierson, and his cousins, William Capotosta and Geralyn Schmidt.
The family would like to thank Community Hospice of Rensselaer County for their wonderful service and Dr. Rebecca Caine for her compassionate care.
Funeral services were Wednesday, November 2, at noon in the Stephentown Federated Church, 1513 Garfield Road, Stephentown, where Rev. Susan Schultz officiated. Burial with full military honors followed in the Cemetery of the Evergreens in Lebanon Springs, NY. Visitation was in the Church on Wednesday from 10 am until the start of the service.
