Hoosick Grange News

Hoosick Grange had an open meeting on November 9, which began with a covered dish supper. It was also awards night. Master David Cornell welcomed everyone and our honored guest, Mr. Ted Schwabrow. Ted had been elected to the New York State Grange Executive Committee and represents the State Master, Mr. Steven Coye. Ted reported on State Grange news and told us that they are thinking of having State Grange in the northeast in 2013. Our Master and Ted presented awards. First award for 70 years of service to the Grange was Elsie Marpe, next with 65 years was Marjorie Herrington and Omer Brenenstuhl with 60 years. Omer was well represented with many family members. David Filkins was to receive a 50 year certificate but was unable to come. Each person had time to tell about their Grange years.
Louise Slingerland was the delegate from Hoosick Grange to attend State Grange. She gave her report at this time. New York State Grange was in Kerhonkson, NY, on October 21-25. She told about each day reporting on committees: Agriculture, Education, Federal Issues, Health, State Issues and Taxation. Sunday was a Memorial Service. The Junior Grange also performed and was excellent. Louise had a good time even if she got up at 5:30 am.
Martha Babbitt, also from Hoosick Grange, was delegate at large, representing Rensselaer County Pomona Grange. Martha gave an excellent report and showed slides of the meeting.
Ted Schwabrow presented Corinne Philpott with an outstanding achievement award for excellence as a Grange Lecturer. The Lecturer had a number of stories to tell for fun. She announced that the November 23 meeting is cancelled. Our next meeting is Wednesday, December 14, at 7 pm. The Mennonite Singers will be entertaining us. Invite family and guests. Grangers bring cookies. We will be having ice cream sundaes. Note the time change.
Grangers brought can goods and money for the Hoosick Falls Food Pantry/Closet.
