Adrianna Maxfield, eight years old, daughter of Scott and Nadine Maxfield, donated 12 inches of hair to Locks of Love for the second time on Wednesday, October 26. Adrianna, a student at the Berlin Elementary School, wanted to donate her hair to help other kids and to honor those in her family who have passed away.
Her first haircut was in loving memory of her Nana, Mary E. Maxfield, who

passed away due to cancer and who would have celebrated her birthday on October 2 – which was the day in 2008 Adrianna first donated her hair.
This time Adrianna donated her hair in memory of her cousin Velerie A Lashway, a young mother of three who lost a battle with Leukemia last year on October 26. After watching her cousin Velerie struggle with cancer, lose her hair and have to wear wigs, Adrianna was determined to donate her hair again to this cause.
Amy Reger said, “I find it remarkable when a kid so young fully understands where their hair is going and what it will be used for. Unfortunately for 8 year old Adrianna, she has had to watch two special people in her life pass away from cancer. Her determination and strength is truly an inspiration. It goes to show that even though we can’t do much – we all can do something! This is the reason why I donate my time and postage to send out the hair to Locks of Love. Anyone donating 10″ or more to this non-profit organization will receive a free hair cut from me at Hair or There in Grafton, 279-0565.”
On October 13 Tiffany Sullivan from Grafton and her six year old daughter, Axianna, each cut off their locks to help disadvantaged children. They each received free haircuts from Hair or There for donating 10” of hair to Locks of Love.
What Is Locks Of Love?

Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. We meet a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The prostheses we provide help to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to return a sense of self, confidence and normalcy to children suffering from hair loss by utilizing donated ponytails to provide the highest quality hair prosthetics to financially disadvantaged children. The children receive hair prostheses free of charge or on a sliding scale, based on financial need.
