Petersburgh Candidate Profiles

November 4, 2011 By eastwickpress

by Alex Brooks
There are no contested elections in Petersburgh. Peter Schaaphok is not running for re-election as Supervisor, and the Republican Party has nominated Siegfried Krahforst for the job. Richard Snyder is running for re-election to the Town Board, and he shares the ballot with newcomer David Alderman, also running for a Town Council seat. Bob Sears declined to run for re-election as Town Justice, and Amy Manchester is running for that office. Emily Harrison is running for re-election as the Town’s Tax Collector.
Siegfried Krahforst – Supervisor
Goals – I would like to bring Petersburgh into the 21st century, get business into town if possible. I hope to organize some citizen committees to study various issues facing the Town and make recommendations.
Background: I have been self-employed for 50 years as an electrician. I have served for 28 years as Petersburgh’s Town Justice, and I have been a member of the Petersburgh Volunteer Fire Department for over 40 years.
Dick Snyder – Town Council
Goals: I would like to support senior citizens, the Youth Commission and volunteer groups in Town. I strive to keep the budget stable and avoid tax increases.
Background: I am a lifelong resident of Petersburgh. I have served in the Petersburgh Fire Department for 37 years, three of those as Fire Chief. I have served on the Town Board for four years and on the Rescue Squad for 2½ years.
David Alderman – Town Council
Goals: I will work to learn more about Town issues and to keep taxes under control. I would also like to be an advocate for the veterans in town.
Background: I served in the Navy for three years in the late 1970s. I worked 25 years on highway construction, so I am knowledgeable about roads and heavy equipment. I am now disabled. I like to hunt and fish and spend time outdoors.
Amy Manchester – Town Justice
Goals: My goal is to go through the classes and get up to speed as quickly as possible so I can do the job effectively. I pledge to give this my very best effort.
Background: I am a lifelong Petersburgh resident. I have served on the Petersburgh Town Board for over 12 years. I have served with the Petersburgh Rescue Squad for 20 years, where I am currently Acting Captain and President.
I work in Campus Operations at the Berkshire Farm Center and Services for Youth. Through this job I have developed many relationships with law enforcement personnel and people in the court system.
