Hoosick Falls – Eleanor J. (Couch) Greenwood, 83, passed away on Saturday, November 26, at her residence on Rensselaer Street in Hoosick Falls, NY. She was the wife of the late William J. Greenwood Jr.
Born on November 22, 1928, in Manchester, VT, Eleanor was the daughter of Albert Duncan and Flora (Streeter) Couch. She graduated from Burr & Burton High School in Manchester. Eleanor worked at the Ben Franklin’s Store in Hoosick Falls before retiring from Woolworth’s in Bennington, VT, after many years of service.
She enjoyed sewing and was an avid crafter. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and especially enjoyed making them Halloween costumes.
Survivors include her six children, Carol Greenwood and Jerry of Salem, NY, Douglas Greenwood and wife Elizabeth of Jacksonville, FL, Barbara Wagner and husband Todd, Sharon Kipp and husband Andy, Linda O’Dell and husband Rock and John Greenwood and wife Kelly, all of Hoosick Falls. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Matt, Spencer, Gigi, Lindsay, Andrea, Keeley, Rocky, Laura, Madison and McKenna, a great-granddaughter, Chloe, and several nieces and nephews. Eleanor is pre-deceased by her husband, William, four brothers and two sisters.
A Graveside Service is on Friday, December 2, at 11 am at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Meals on Wheels or the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad through the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, who are handling the arrangements.
