Continuing a tradition started by Pastor Robert Sprunger, the Hoosick Falls Community Band will present its 29th annual Christmas Concert on Wednesday, December 21, at 7:30 pm. The venue is the First United Presbyterian Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls.
The band rehearses two or three times monthly, except for the summer concert season, to prepare for this and ten other programs. In addition to this program and the eight concerts in Wood Park, the band does the Memorial Day parade and the Flag Day program at the American Legion Post.
The band, formerly named the Van Surdam Band, has been performing since 1873. First in the park at the corner of Classic and High Streets and then in Wood Park. The Band is supported this year by the Town of Hoosick, the Village of Hoosick Falls and the estates of Harry Weir and Edith Craig Reynolds. Funds go toward the operation of the band and repairs to the bandstand that included new steps this season. Next season there will be new railings.
The Christmas program will include the following selections: “I’ll Be Home For Christmas,” “Chanukah Is Here,” “Sleigh Ride,” “Russian Christmas Music,” “Cantique De Noel,” “We Three Kings,” “Huron Indian Carol,” “Christmas ‘Round the World,” “Over the River,” “A Crazy Mixed Up Christmas Concert,” “Christmas Sing-A-Long,” “White Christmas” and “God Bless America.”
Hoosick Falls is one of the few communities that has a regularly meeting community band with a long history of dedicated musicians.
The public is cordially invited to this program. Come and enjoy!
