Norwich University used seven individual event titles to spur itself to the team title at the 2011 Great Northeast Athletic Conference men’s invitational on  December 3 and 4.
Coach Laura Dunn’s team tallied 289 points, besting runner-up Regis College of Massachusetts by 52 points. The Maroon and Gold picked up three relay wins in the 200-yard freestyle, 400-yard medley and 200-yard medley. Individually, sophomore Patrick Bowden (Cumberland, ME) was a double winner in the 50-yard  and 200-yard breaststroke events, while freshman Lance Webster (Windham, ME) won the 200-yard backstroke and sophomore Brandon Kelly (Centreville, MD) won the 200-yard butterfly. Bowden and Webster combined to set three GNAC records with Webster doing so in the backstroke, and Bowden achieving new league bests in both of his victories.
Norwich’s all-tournament honorees included Bowden, Webster, freshman Shakeel Ballantyne (Jonesboro, GA), freshman Patrick Ogden (Madison, AL), junior Chris Hevey (Biddeford, ME), senior Kevin Weber (Stephentown, NY), sophomore John Erdeski (Stamford, VT), and sophomore Adam Vaughn (Glendale, AR).
The Cadets’ women’s squad wound up sixth over the two days in the Simmons College pool with 41 points. Event highlights went to the 200-yard freestyle relay that placed fourth and seniors Felicia Jones (Sherburne, NY) who was fifth in the 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke races and Janice Knoop (Cicero, NY) placing fifth in the 100-yard butterfly and sixth in the 200-yard butterfly.
