Phyllis E. Hoffman

Stephentown – Phyllis E. “Curly” Hoffman, 1928-2011, 83, of Route 43, Stephentown, NY, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 22, 2011, at the Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, MA.
Born October 29, 1928, in Stephentown, Phyllis graduated from New Lebanon (NY) High School. As a Teacher’s Assistant working at the Stephentown Elementary School, she encouraged and assisted many students. Phyllis served the community in the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department as a “Fire Belle.” She was a longtime fan of the Philadelphia Phillies. “Curly” enjoyed many camping trips to the ocean with her family and gave loving encouragement and support to all of her grandchildren.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Charles E. Hoffman. Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Nancy Gabriel of East Greenbush, NY, her son, Danny Hoffman and his wife Nancy of Stephentown, her grandchildren, Danny Hoffman II of Stephentown, Nathan Hoffman of Troy, Tara Bouchard and her husband Eric of Stephentown, Elizabeth Gabriel, Alison Gabriel, Nicholas Gabriel  and Jaclyn Gabriel, all of East Greenbush, her great-grandchildren, Makaylah Harrington, Bryant Bouchard and Devon Hoffman. She is also survived by her brothers, Ulysses Sweener Jr. and Lawrence Sweener, and her sisters, Ruth Rieger and Stella Hoffman, all of Stephentown.
Her parents were the late Ulysses Pascal Sweener and Elizabeth Matilda Traveis Sweener, both of Stephentown. She is pre-deceased by her brothers, Leo Sweener of Hancock, MA, and Donald Sweener of Stephentown, and her sister, Blanche Toolan of Lenox, MA.
Calling hours were Monday, November 28, from 4 to 7 pm at the Hall and Higgins Funeral Home, 457 NY 43,  Stephentown. The funeral was Tuesday, November 29, at 11 am at the Hall and Higgins Funeral Home.  There was a reception at the Stephentown Fire Pavilion on Grange Hall Road following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to the Juvenile Diabetes Association, 15 Tech Valley Drive, Suite 4, East Greenbush, NY, 12061.
