Rebuilding Hope And Homes In Haiti

December 9, 2011 By eastwickpress

Four local people have been involved in helping rebuild homes in Haiti.  In partnership with Conscience International and American Baptist Churches of NYS, there have been two mission trips held this year to Grand Goave, Haiti. On October 19-26 Lorraine Brownell, Jonathan Filkins and Peter Cottrell, all members at First Baptist Church of Hoosick Falls, joined with six others from across NYS building “rubble homes.”  This is a concept of reusing the rubble created from destroyed homes from the earthquake of 2010 to rebuild a solid home that has been tested to withstand up to an 8.0 earthquake.  This provides not only a safe home but hope for a country in much need.  In February there were 23 people from across NYS who had made the first trip, and, locally, Elon Baker and Lorraine Brownell were on that team. If you are interested in hearing more about their experiences, please contact any of those involved, the First Baptist Church of Hoosick Falls or the Hoosick Baptist Church.  A website with more information on rubble homes is available at www.haitireplacementhomes.org.
