Rough Start For BCS Boys Hoops

December 9, 2011 By eastwickpress

by Ryan Mosher
The Berlin boys basketball team kicked off its season with games at Doane Stuart on Thursday and at home against Hoosic Valley on Friday. The quick start to the season did not go well for the Mountaineers as they dropped both contests.
Playing in the small gym at Doane Stuart, the Mountaineers had difficulty with the rebounding of the Thunder Chickens. Berlin could not find an answer to Doane Stuart’s Evan Schettini. The forward recorded a double-double, scoring 17 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.
While Berlin struggled to find the bottom of the net, they did manage to stay within striking distance most of the game. An 8-0 run in the last two and a half minutes of the first half brought their deficit to six points, at 27-21, going into halftime. I

n the third quarter the Mountaineers stayed close, trailing by just seven points entering the last quarter.
Unfortunately, the scoring struggles became more prevalent in the fourth quarter, as Berlin only put up seven points. The Thunder Chickens took advantage and stretched the final score out to 50-38. Seth Hawk led Berlin with 10 points.
Friday night was even rougher in Berlin. Hoosic Valley, of the Wasaren League, ran to an easy 58-28 win over the Mountaineers. Hawk led Berlin with 12 points, and Jeff Curtis chipped in 10 points.
