HFCS Considers Accepting Non-Resident Students

At their December meeting the Hoosick Falls School Board discussed the possibility of accepting non-resident students on a tuition basis. Superintendent Ken Facin said he has been contacted by families from outside the District who are interested in sending their children to the Hoosick Falls Schools. He suggested to the Board that this could be an opportunity for the District to raise its revenue without appreciably raising its costs if they accept students only where they have available space. Business Manager Pam Hatfield said the tuition they would pay is determined by a State formula.
[private]The Board agreed that developing a policy on accepting non-resident students could be advantageous to the District and asked Facin to prepare a policy for consideration at the January meeting. Facin said such students would be accepted on an individual basis only if the school has space and the students meet academic and behavioral standards set by the School Board.
Home Sports Events Free For Students
The School Board passed a motion to make all home sporting events free for students. Some post season games controlled by the Section II athletic organization may be exceptions, but, whenever possible, the District will make post season games free to students also. Facin said this was an initiative of the District’s new Athletic Director, Brett Lamy.
ADAPT Donations
The Hoosick Falls Alcohol & Drug Abuse Prevention Team made two donations, which were accepted by the Board. They donated $600 for the purchase of equipment for the Auto Tech Department in memory of Joe Sweeney and $600 for the purchase of equipment for the Art Department in memory of Tyler Marcoux.
Junior Prom
The School Board’s December meeting began with a presentation from the Junior Class officers and their faculty advisors on the Junior Prom. It will be on Saturday, May 19, on the Captain JP Cruise Boat on the Hudson River in Troy. The Grand March  will be from 5 to 6:30 pm at the school. Students will board the boat at 7 pm, and it will set sail at 7:30. The tickets are expected to cost $55, and 150 students are expected to participate.
The January meeting of the Hoosick Falls School Board will be January 19 at 7 pm in the High School Library.[/private]
