Joan Rogers

Hoosick Falls – Joan (Hewson) Rogers, 82, passed peacefully on January 22, 2012, at her residence on High Street in Hoosick Falls, NY. Joan was the wife of Raymond Rogers, who died in 2009.
Born in Troy, NY, on December 24, 1929, she was the daughter of the late James and Dora (Gooden) Hewson. She was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church and a 1948 graduate of St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls. Joan worked at the Hoosick Falls Undergarment until the time of her marriage. She was a valued member of the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad since its inception, also serving as Secretary for many years.
Joan was active in many community organizations. She served on the Hoosick Falls Village Board, being the first woman elected to the position. She served on the Hoosick Town Council and was Past President of the St. Mary’s Academy Home School Association. She was a past member and Grand Regent of the Catholic Daughters and of the Elks Auxiliary. She was a past coach for Hoosick Misses Softball and a past den mother of Boy Scouts of America Troop 64. Joan volunteered for many years at the St. Mary’s Academy Funtastik Fair.
Survivors include her children, Dodie Vars and husband John, Terri Burdick and husband John, Joni Rogers, Rosemarie Rogers and Rick Stowell, Faye McCormick and husband Gary and Mickey Rogers and wife Stacy. She also leaves seventeen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Joan is pre-deceased by a son, James Rogers, and a sister, Mary “Liz” Salluzzo.
A Mass of Christian burial was offered on Wednesday, January 25, at 11 am from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial followed the Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.
Relatives and friends called at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090, on Tuesday, January 24, from 4 to 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad or the Second Chance Animal Shelter through the Funeral Home.
