Norman Rockwell’s Civil Rights Paintings

January 26, 2012 By eastwickpress

In recognition of Black History Month, Norman Rockwell Museum curator and educator Thomas Daly will present “The Problem We All Live With: Norman Rockwell and the Civil Rights Paintings” on Thursday, February 2, at 6:30 pm at the New Lebanon Library.
Daly will explore Rockwell’s powerful visual commentary on the subject of civil rights in the United States through iconic works that continue to resonate. Images will include “The Problem We All Live With” and the “Golden Rule” as well as many more images from different eras of Rockwell’s career. Daly will discuss how the paintings were created by America’s favorite illustrator and will tell some of the stories behind them.
Thomas Daly is the Curator of Education for The Norman Rockwell Museum at Stockbridge. During his 14 years with The Norman Rockwell Museum he has taken on a number of different roles and authored many articles about the work that Rockwell created during his nearly 70 year career as an illustrator.
This program is free and open to the public. The New Lebanon Library is located at 550 State Route 20, ¼ mile north of the yellow blinking light at the intersection of Routes 20/22.
