Thomas C. Mentiply

Hoosick Falls – Thomas C. Mentiply, 79, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2012 at the Hoosick Falls Health Center. He had resided on Cummings Street in Hoosick Falls, NY, and was the husband of the late Helen Jane (Connelly) Mentiply, who died in 2001.
Born on July 2, 1932, in Erie, PA, Tom was the son of the late James and Isabella (Baine) Mentiply. He was educated at schools in Hoosick Falls. Tom was a member of the National Guard for 44 years, serving as a tank commander and later as a cook. He also worked at Lydall, the former Wood Flong, in Hoosick Falls until his retirement. Tom was very active in the community and was a member of the Hoosick Falls Country Club, where he played golf and served as a past Board Member and House Chairman. He was also a member of the Derby Club and served as Treasurer, of the St. Stanislaw Society and of the First United Presbyterian Church in Hoosick Falls. He also enjoyed spending many summers with his family in Misquamicut Beach, RI.
Survivors include his daughters, Diane L. Fitzpatrick and husband William of Hoosick Falls and Lynda A. Long and husband James of Menands, NY, his sister, Elizabeth Dupuis of Springfield, MA, his six grandchildren, Liane Colby and husband Matthew, William Fitzpatrick and wife Rhiannon, Mark Fitzpatrick and wife Katherine, Karyn Steurer and husband Michael, Robert Long and wife Erica and Kevin Long, his three great-grandchildren, Addisyn Colby, Mackenzie Steurer and Claire Fitzpatrick, as well as many nieces and nephews. Tom is pre-deceased by his son, Thomas E. Mentiply, his twin brother, James, and his younger brother, George Mentiply.
Funeral services are Friday, January 13, at 2:30 pm from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY. Burial will follow the service at Parklawn Cemetery in Bennington, VT.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 1 pm until the start of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Hoosick Falls Health Center or the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad through the funeral home.
