Upcoming Events At Stephentown Memorial Library

January 26, 2012 By eastwickpress

• Spanish Language Enrichment Program with Angela Jimenez – The main objective of this program is to introduce children and families to Spanish and Spanish culture through fun, games, music and stories. Angela Jimenez is a native Spanish speaker from Colombia and has led Spanish language enrichment classes at the Grafton Public Library and at the Berlin Elementary School. She lives in Petersburgh. We will meet every Saturday as long as there is sufficient interest. Class time is 10:30 to 11:30 am. Drop in is fine, but more consistent attendance will yield greater proficiency. All are welcome – children, teens, adults. We will break into small groups based on age and experience of attendees.
• Family Movie Night – Come in from the cold and enjoy a showing of the film Dolphin Tale on Friday, January 27, at 7 pm. Hot chocolate and popcorn will be served. This movie is rated PG. This event is free and all are welcome.
• Learn to Download E-Books – Do you own a Kindle®, Nook®, or other e-reader, iPad®, iPod®, MP3 or other portable device? Join us on Tuesday, January 31, at 6:30 pm as we learn how to borrow digital content from the library system. Jo-Ann Benedetti of the Upper Hudson Library System will lead us through the process of downloading books, audiobooks and video to various devices. Bring your device to the program to follow along. Seating is limited, so pre-registration is requested by calling the Library, or stop by in person.
• Soups, Subs and ‘C’inema Fund-raiser – Saturday, February 4, from 10 am to 2 pm. The Friends of SML are gearing up to help you feed a crowd for Superbowl Sunday. Having a Super Bowl Party? Stop by the Library on Saturday, February 4, and stock up on soups, subs and ‘C’inema (movies for those who don’t enjoy watching the Superbowl).  The talented cooks of the Friends group will be serving delicious soups, potato-leek, split pea and ham and bean, subs include a choice of hot or sweet sausage with peppers and onions. All will be pre-packaged and can be easily reheated the next day. There will also be the usual amazing desserts available. In addition to our usual ample DVD collection, we will have some great new releases and an extra batch of movies on loan from UHLS. There is something for everyone. Enjoy the weekend and leave the cooking to your Friends. All proceeds will be used to help with Library operation and programs. Spread the word to all your friends and help us make this fund-raiser a success.
For more information on any of these programs or to register for programs, call the Stephentown Memorial Library at 733-5750 or stop by during our Library Hours.
