Grafton Lakes State Park is hosting a Winter Recess Program, Animal Tracks and Traces, on Saturday, February 18, at 1 pm. This program will include an introduction to reading the stories left in the snow by fox, deer, rabbits and other forest dwellers along with a short hike. Come dressed for the weather and learn how to track and trace animals found at the Park.
The Park is hosting a second winter recess program “Citizen Scientist Bird Count” on Monday, February 20. This program will include winter bird bingo, making pine cone bird feeders, blue jay cookies and an outing to help us conduct our annual bird count. As part of Cornell Ornithology Lab’s national Great Backyard Bird Count, this bird count helps us learn the population of different bird species from year to year. Come participate, and you can call yourself a citizen scientist!
These are beginners’ classes, ideal for children, but the whole family is welcome to come and enjoy a day together. Discover the signs that animals leave behind as they live their lives in the woods and fields of the Park. There is a $3 program fee per person including snowshoe rental; the event begins at the Park office.
