Gregory E. Stevens

Grafton Stephentown – Gregory E. Stevens, 54, of Middle Way, Grafton Stephentown, NY, died on Tuesday morning, January 31, 2012, at his residence, under the care of Community Hospice of Rensselaer County.
Born in Ayer, MA, on October 8, 1957, he was the son of the late Earl A. Stevens and Luanne James Stevens of Petersburgh, NY. He was the loving husband of Cheryl A. Gundrum Stevens, whom he married on December 19, 1987, in Grafton.
A 1975 graduate of Berlin Central High School, Mr. Stevens was a lifelong resident of the Petersburgh/Stephentown area. He entered the United States Army in April of 1976 and was honorably discharged in 1978. His employment included the Broadwell Sawmill in Petersburgh, Gundrum Lumber in Grafton, Rifenburg Construction of Troy, NY, and ACT Electric in Petersburgh, where he retired due to disability five years ago. Gregory enjoyed hunting, fishing, knives and guns and was a history buff. He was a faithful member of the Faith Baptist Church in Petersburgh.
Survivors, besides his wife and mother, include his children, Shandra N. Stevens and Christopher G. Stevens of Stephentown, NY, and Curtis A. Stevens of Petersburgh, his grandchildren Briana and Ashleigh Stevens, Abigail Sperry, Tyler Stevens and Christianna, Luke, Wyatt and Leah Stevens, his sisters, Joan Hill of Berlin, NY, Laurie Broadwell of Petersburgh and Jodi Hubbard of Grafton along with his nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by a sister, Judy Crandall, a niece, Jolene Bedford, and a nephew, John Bedford.
Funeral services are on Thursday evening at 7 pm in the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home, 66 Armsby Road, Petersburgh, with Gregory’s brother-in-law, Pastor Scott DeGiorgio of the Faith Baptist Church, officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to the funeral home for visitation on Thursday starting at 5 pm.
A graveside service with full military honors takes place on Friday at 10 am in the Meadowlawn Cemetery in Petersburgh.
