Letter To The Editor – A Waste Of Taxpayers Dollars: Bus Routes

February 10, 2012 By eastwickpress

To the editor:
This letter is to inform the taxpayers of the BCD of the waste of the taxpayers dollars.
My children ride a small [school] bus – this bus goes on Stillman Village [Road] then proceeds to Varville, then (here is where the waste happens) drives a half of an hour to pick up two other students on the trail and off of the trail when another bus drives this same route. This same bus is also overcrowded with always a child sitting on the floor. A big NO NO! I have emailed the [School] Board with this concern and no response – spoke with the director of transportation and this was his response – we have taken 8 students off of the bus for safety issues –  which is fine – but this same said bus still will be picking our children up at 6 am to still travel the distance to pick up these other two students. This is a huge waste of gas for the taxpayers!!!!!! The director of transportation is also our business manager shouldn’t he be aware of the cost to taxpayers for this waste? This is very poor management and if this is an example of how our taxpayers money is being used, how is the rest of our money being handled? The second issue is the children who are being picked up at 6 am; it is affecting their academic success from lack of sleep due to the early hours – when I spoke to the transportation director of this concern he was very rude and not willing to work out an alternate solution. The students in the farthest point of Grafton are being picked up at 6:30… What is this telling us. Its telling me wastefulness. Third – why doesn’t the School Board answer the parents’ emails? Aren’t they there for our children? Shouldn’t even the smallest concerns be addressed? Don’t they realize a small problem in the end could end up to be a big problem?
Thank you,
Stoney Bierwirth
