Panthers Pound Cambridge For Third Time

February 24, 2012 By eastwickpress

by Ryan Mosher
The third time wasn’t the charm for the Cambridge boys basketball team. The third time playing Hoosick Falls turned out to be pretty much just like the last two times, lopsided Panther victories. The only difference was that this one ended the Indians’ season while propelling Hoosick Falls into the Class C Quarterfinals.

The Panthers controlled the game from the beginning, allowing just two Indian field goals in the first quarter, both three-pointers by Will Bromirski. Bromirski has been the lone bright spot for Cambridge this season, averaging over 22 points per game. Hoosick Falls held the senior to a season low 11 points, including none in the second half of the game.
After building a lead in the first quarter, the Panthers went on an 11-3 run to open the second quarter. Hoosick Falls built its lead up to 35-16 by the half thanks to 8 points in the quarter by Chris LaCroix and 5 points by Matt Gormley. In the third quarter, Gormley added 8 more points, but the Indians outscored the Panthers to slice one point off the already large lead.
In the final period the Panthers offensive exploded again, outscoring Cambridge 12-2 in the first three minutes. Tanner Williams scored six points in the quarter as Hoosick Falls pounded the point home – and won 75-35.
Gormley scored 17 points for the Panthers while Williams and Alex Lilac put in 13 points each. Randy Tutunjian scored 10 points for the top seed Panthers. They will play next on Saturday at Hudson Valley Community College at 1:30 pm against #9 seed Rensselaer.
