Stephentown Historical Society Presentation On The Mount

February 24, 2012 By eastwickpress

The Rev. Dr. Robert Loesch will present a talk on The Mount: the home and estate of Edith Wharton to the Stephentown Historical Society on Monday, March 5, at 7:30 pm. The meeting will be at the Stephentown Heritage Center on Garfield Road (County Route 26), Stephentown. It is free and open to the public. The building is handicapped accessible. For directions or information, phone 518-733-5675.
The Mount was the home Edith Wharton designed and built in Lenox, Massachusetts, at the turn of the nineteenth century and where she lived and wrote for ten years. It is a National Historic Landmark and an autobiographical house, embodying its creator’s spirit. This year is the 150th anniversary of Wharton’s birth. The talk will tell of her life and accomplishments, focusing on her Lenox years.
Loesch is the President of the Sand Lake Historical Society and pastor of Zion’s United Church of Christ in Taborton, NY. His interest in women’s literature and history led him to employment as a tour guide during 2002, The Mount’s first season open after its extensive restoration.
