Hoosick Falls – Thomas Anthony “Brooklyn” Byrnes, 89, died on Monday, January 30, 2012, at the Hoosick Falls Health Center. He had resided on Dolan Avenue in Hoosick Falls, NY, and was the husband of the late Lillian (Rogers) Byrnes.
Born on November 21, 1922, in Brooklyn, NY, Thomas was the son of the late John and Rose (Hutzel) Byrnes. He was educated at the Brooklyn Vocational School. He enjoyed horse racing and going to the local Off Track Betting parlor as well as watching hockey and taking the subway. Tom helped in the development of the Transit Museum in New York City. He was an Aviation Machinist’s Mate Second Class USNR with the United States Navy and a member of the Hoosick Falls V.F.W.
Survivors include his daughter, Patricia Hendricks and husband Glenn of Eagle Bridge, NY, his sister, Margaret Rabbitt of Westbury, NY, his brother, Edward Byrnes of Hicksville, NY, his four grandchildren, Christina Sesera of Greenwich, NY, Kerry Denue of Cropseyville, NY, Lindsey Hendricks of Bayville, NY, and Emilyann Hendricks of Eagle Bridge, as well as six great-grandchildren. He is pre-deceased by two brothers, Robert and John Byrnes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Saturday, February 4, at 10:30 am from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.
Relatives and friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090, on Saturday, February 4, from 9 to 10 am. Memorial contributions may be made to the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad through the funeral home.
