March 16, 2012 By eastwickpress

The NYS Maple Producers Association welcomes the public to the statewide Maple Weekends on March 17 and 18 and 24 and 25 from 10 am to 4 pm each day.  Locally Kent’s Sugar House on Plank Road in Berlin will be the host in Rensselaer County.
The entire process of bringing sap from the tree to tasting the syrup will be demonstrated. Old time as well as more present day methods of tree tapping will be shown as well as gathering sap by bucket and tubing. This educational event about syrup making will include tastings of the sap and the syrup. Syrup products will also be on hand to purchase.
Visitors are advised to wear their mud shoes and dress to be comfortable in the weather.
More information on all the participating New York Maple Producers can be found on the web at http://www.mapleweekend.com. Click on “Locations” on the home page for a list of participants with mapquest links. To find Kent’s Sugar House click on Rensselaer County and pull up the link.
