To welcome spring, Grafton Lakes State Park is providing one hour backyard maple sugaring demonstrations on Saturday, March 17, and Saturday, March 24. On March 17, the program will be offered throughout the day, at 10 am, 11 am, 1 pm and 2 pm. On March 24, participants may attend at 10 am or 11 am.
The program will demonstrate easy steps for making maple syrup at home. It encourages participants to try tapping trees, collecting and boiling the sap down and testing the flavor. This outdoor event is ideal for the whole family and an enjoyable way to celebrate the changing season. All participants can savor a sampling of sap as well as freshly made syrup. The March 17 program will feature free green pancakes, for St.Patrick’s Day, with fresh maple syrup from a local farm.
The fee for the program is $2 per participant or $5 per family. There are limited spots so pre-registration is required. Call 518-279-1155 to register or for directions or more information. More about parks and historic sites in New York can be found at www.nysparks.com.
