HFCS Gets Mystery Money

March 23, 2012 By eastwickpress

by Alex Brooks
Hoosick Falls School Superintendent Ken Facin said at last week’s School Board meeting that he had received notice from the State Education Department Division of the Budget that the Hoosick Falls District will be receiving an additional $30,000 in “general operating support.”
Facin said that so far he has been unable to determine why or how the Hoosick Falls District was chosen to receive this money. [private]He is not sure how many other Districts received additional money as part of this distribution, but he is very happy with the unexpected windfall, which he plans to use for curriculum work to get ready for the new Common Core Standards.
Facin said whether he understands where it came from or not, he is inclined to say “Thank you,” accept the money and put it to good use.
Public Comment
Ken Marbot, a parent of two bowlers on the HFCS bowling team which was disqualified from sectional play, asked the Board to find a new Athletic Director because the Athletic Director “failed these kids.” Marbot felt that he had not apologized sufficiently to the team or to the community. The Board listened respectfully to what Marbot had to say but did not respond.
Jim Martinez, President of the Hoosick Federal Credit Union (HFCU) said the HFCU Annual Meeting held at the High School cafeteria attracted twice as many guests as it had in the past, and he attributed it to the venue. “Heather Brooks did an outstanding job. The staff was friendly, accommodating and on top of their game,” he said. The presentation was elegant, and the everyone remarked on how good the food was, he said. Every aspect of the event was handled with “the professionalism of a top-notch organization.”
The Board accepted a donation of $700 from the HFCS PTA to help sponsor the performance of MacBeth on March 5. They also approved a trip to Hamden, CT, for the girls lacrosse team on the weekend of March 31 and April 1, a trip to Buzzards Bay for the ESF, Ecology and Earth Club students on April 27-28 and a trip to Booneville, NY, for the Varsity Girls softball team on April 27-28.[/private]
