Pre-School Presidents In An Election Year

March 9, 2012 By eastwickpress

Lori Christoffersen’s pre-school class at St. Mary’s Academy honored American Presidents in February. [private]Mr. Lincoln wasn’t the only president honored. The students also painted cherry blossom trees in honor of George Washington. Before their mid-winter break, students created a mixed-media mural of a Chinese Lion Dragon and then paraded through the school with dancing dragon chopstick puppets wishing everyone in the building a “Gung Hay Fat Choy” (happy new year). Next on the agenda was a discussion of historical figures Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and St. Valentine, the Roman, and their similar message of caring for and respecting all people. Following a reading of the Steven Kroll book The Biggest Valentine, children worked in pairs to design and distribute valentines to the faculty and staff. They also made cards for their families. As part of their dental health studies, children practiced brushing and flossing using a giant-sized toothbrush, a toothy, grinning milk jug, a duplo block, playdough and yarn.
