St. Mary’s Academy Students Recognized For Cystic Fibrosis Work

March 2, 2012 By eastwickpress

On Thursday, February 16, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Northeastern New York held its annual banquet to award outstanding volunteers within the region.
St. Mary’s Academy is proud to announce that two of their students, Jake Restino and Jonathan Kempf, were chosen for Outstanding Student Leadership.  Jake and Jonathan formed their own team called, “Hoops for Mathew” in support of their friend and brother, Mathew Kempf. This team was then a part of the Cystic Fibrosis’s Foundation Great Strides Walk held at Grafton Lakes State Park.
Jake and Jon orchestrated an events filled morning at SMA with basketball being the theme. Scott Morton from the Albany Legends held a basketball clinic where kids where able to learn new drills. The entire school – students, teachers and parents overwhelmingly supported them and raised over $1,000 dollars in support of Cystic Fibrosis research. Jake and Jonathan are once again planning for the 2012 Cystic Fibrosis walk which will be held Sunday, May 20.
