The Union Free School Mural Is Missing

March 2, 2012 By eastwickpress

submitted by Margaret Robertson
The mural and its wall was the last part to come down unscathed, amid the smashing of everything else. [private]The crew knocked it from behind, and the mural went face down. This morning, the wall and mural were gone. Our neighborhood watchdog said a vehicle pulled in last night and turned its lights off. Moments later, noises like knocking on metal were heard for a long time, and then silence. It is my personal feeling that the crew came back at night, and took it away in parts. Plaster CAN be repaired, as seen with Michelangelo’s chapel paintings. It would be a crime if they pulled that stunt, because they will make a fortune on it somewhere. They knew those of us familiar with it were very concerned about it, and mourning its loss.

The mural in the Union Free School building depicting "Jack and Jill"..."Jack Horner with the plum on his thumb"..."Humpty Dumpty"....BIG Mother Goose..."Mary and her little lamb"..."Wee Willie Winkie"..."Jack-be nimble"...and "Tom, Tom, the Piper's son"... Photo courtesy of Margaret Robertson.
