Thomas J. Barton

March 16, 2012 By eastwickpress

Johnsonville – Thomas J. Barton, Jr., 85, of Johnsonville, NY, died Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at his life-long home. He was the beloved husband of Beverly (Salisbury) Barton for nearly 55 years. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Thomas and Mary (Dorr) Barton, his son, Thomas Barton, his sisters, Geraldine Barton and Alice Tate, his brother, Gerald Barton, and his son-in-law, Michael Buvarsky.
Tom was born on June 27, 1926, in Johnsonville. He was a graduate of Hoosic Valley Central School and was employed there as a school bus driver for many years. He was owner and operator of his dairy farm, Bevntom Farms, for nearly 70 years, a farm previously owned by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly, his daughter, Joan Buvarsky of Danielson, CT, his sons, Joseph and wife Lynn Barton, William Barton, Robert Barton and Donald and wife Marilyn Barton, all of Johnsonville, his grandsons, Joseph and wife Jeni Barton and Corey Barton, his granddaughter, Kelci Barton, his great-granddaughter, Lily Mae Barton, his sister-in-law, Harriet Barton Speizio, his nephew, Kelly Barton, and his nieces, Colleen DeMarco and Paula Simmes.
Tom was a father image in the lives of his brothers-in-law, Kenneth, James, Norman, Douglas, Thomas, Richard and Timothy Salisbury, and his sisters-in-law, Nancy Renner, Kathryn Washburn, Linda Salisbury and Karen Ruhle. He was also lovingly known as Grandpa Tom to three special young boys who have touched the lives so deeply of the whole Barton family – Tommy, Corey and George.
His farm not only provided many of life’s growing and learning experiences to his extensive family but is a favorite gathering place for family functions, which include the many nieces and nephews from the Salisbury family.
He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Canada with his wife and especially enjoyed the week each summer at Galway Lake with their grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Fr. George Fleming, on Saturday, March 17, at 11 am from the Transfiguration Parish (formerly Holy Trinity) in Schaghticoke, NY. Relatives and friends may call at the Church on Friday evening from 4 to 7 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the American Heart Association or the Transfiguration Parish Capital Fund through the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090, who are handling the arrangements.
