by Bea Peterson
Deputy Matthew Trolio of the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call at 2 am, Friday, March 2, and assisted in the rescue of a woman who had fallen into the Walloomsac River on Factory Hill Road in Hoosick. Her upper body lay on the bank while her lower body remained in the River. [private]Upon arrival Deputy Trolio entered the river and lifted the victim’s legs out of the frigid water and stabilized them while waiting for EMS. Trolio used his long sleeve uniform shirt and turtle neck to wrap the victim’s legs and arms to provide warmth from the cold and to avoid exposure. The woman stated she had no idea how she ended up in the River. Members of the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad, Town of North Hoosick Fire Department and Town of Cambridge ASL assisted. During the rescue Deputy Trolio entered the freezing water to assist EMS personnel in placing the victim on a backboard and in transporting her up from the riverbank to the awaiting ambulance. Both the Deputy and the victim were transported to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center and were treated for hypothermia.
Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department Public Affairs Officer Yvonne Keefe stated on Wednesday, March 7, that no further information was available on the case.[/private]
