The Grafton Historical Society’s April meeting will be held at the Grafton Senior Center on April 18 at 7 pm. Come join us for the Grafton “premier” of the movie Dadetown. Dadetown is a mock-documentary. Dadetown is the directorial debut of Russ Hexter and features Grafton native Gordon Gunny Gundrum as the sheriff of Dadetown.
[private]A small town enjoys a boom and suffers an economic downturn at the same time. The fictional small town’s central industry is a metal fabricating plant. During World War II, they made a bundle from defense contracts, but today they crank out staples and paper clips. Dadetown’s citizens are a stolid, conservative lot, not caring much care for change.
Small town charm and favorable tax rates lure another business to town. Initially the new business does well and brings prosperity to Dadetown, but the longtime residents aren’t convinced. When the new business announces they can’t compete with foreign markets, the folks who have been the Town’s backbone for most of the century find themselves out of work, while the newcomers enjoy prosperity they never dreamed possible.
