Hoosick Lions Club Penny Hunt

April 6, 2012 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson
The weather on Saturday, March 31, was cloudy and a little on the chilly side. It was warmer than last year but not as warm as St. Patrick’s Day! Didn’t matter. As usual there was a large crowd for the Town of Hoosick Lions Club 51st Annual Penny Hunt in Wood Park. [private]The three year olds and under seemed a little mystified by the process. But, with a little bit of adult help, they finally began collecting pennies.

The older boys and girls knew the process from past experience. They watched hundreds of pennies being thrown into the air and skittering across the ground, and they eagerly awaited the signal to “go!” Everyone was eager to find the bright orange penny that would earn them an Easter basket full of goodies.
Winners

The winner of the basket for Boys and Girls, Three and Under was Sophia Schmidt of Bennington, VT. All the other winners were from Hoosick Falls. They were: Boys 4, 5 and 6 – Carson Glover, Girls 4,5 and 6 – Jaidyn Wood, Boys 7, 8 and 9  -Ben Kapron, Girls 7, 8 and 9 – Madelyn Kasulinous.
Egg Toss
Close to 24 teams competed in the Egg Toss contest. There were several excellent catches, several bounced eggs that didn’t break and, of course, a few that broke dramatically on the egg catcher. The winners of the contest were Michael Haynes and Tegan Wood. In the classical ending of the event, they high-fived with a couple of the eggs, making for a splashy finale. Their prize was gift certificates to Pizza Bella.
The Town of Hoosick Lions Club was formed and chartered with 26 members on October 20, 1960. The Club enjoys a rich tradition of sponsoring long standing activities such as the Penny Hunt and the 5K Road Race.
The Hoosick Lions are grateful to the community and the businesses that have supported the Club and its programs, helping them accomplish their goals of providing service to the community.
