The Petersburgh Public Library has just received a coveted Community Arts Grant from the Arts Center of the Capitol Region/New York State Council on the Arts, for a creative video and music project to be produced by two of Petersburgh’s resident composers/video artists, Barton and Priscilla McLean. This grant was supplemented by the Taconic Corporation, whose early support was crucial in the success of the Library’s grant application.

[private]The McLeans moved to Petersburgh in 1983 as composers looking for a permanent, quiet, scenic place from which to anchor their experimental media arts touring career, eventually spanning 43 states and many foreign countries. What they were also surprised to find was a growing community of individuals and families – artists, musicians, back-to-the-earthers, stonemasons, timber framers – in short, a community of highly individual artists who have a creative dream and work hard to fulfill it, with some amazing results. Thus the title of their video project – “Peter’s People: Working the Dream.” Petersburgh was originally founded by Peter Simmons, an early settler.
The premiere showing will be given at the Petersburgh Public Library in the spring of 2013, after which DVD copies will be deposited in the Petersburgh Public Library and will be placed on YouTube or Vimeo.[/private]
