American Legion Prepares For Memorial Day

A banquet was held at the Holiday Inn Banquet hall for the American Legion National Commander Fang A. Wong, a United States Military Veteran who served during the Vietnam War era. There were around one thousand Veterans, all American Legion Legionnaires, in attendance. A sirloin beef dinner with all the trimmings was enjoyed by all.
Hoosick Post 40 is open to new members and will accept all Veterans who have been honorably discharged and have served during a period of war. To apply, contact the Commander, Walter Zwinge, at 518-686-9887.

This year on Memorial Day Hoosick Post 40 under the direction of Comdr.. Zwinge will raise the Flag in Wood Memorial Park at the New Veterans Memorial at 8 am sharp with placing of the wreaths at the Memorial and a short service and the Color Guard firing a salute to those who gave their lives to keep America free. Taps will be played. They will then assemble in the street and march to the bridge below the laundry where Unit 40 will perform a short service and wreaths will be thrown into the river and the Color Guard will fire and taps will be played. They will then march back to Wood Memorial Park to await the step-off to the Parade which will be under the direction of long time Parade Director Donald Bogardus. A program at Wood Memorial Park will ensue after the Parade is finished. Veterans will be welcomed at Post 40 on Main Street after the program in the Park for hot dogs and refreshments.
