Betty R. Jones

Petersburgh – Betty R. Thomas Jones, 75, of Smith Road, Petersburgh, NY, died on Monday, May 7, 2012, at her home under the care of Community Hospice of Rensselaer County.
Born in Petersburgh on October 15, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Jay and Adelaide Yerke Thomas Sr. Betty was the loving wife for 56 years of Alric W. Jones. A lifelong resident of Petersburgh, she was a former member of the Petersburgh United Methodist Church. She had attended North Petersburgh, NY, schools and worked for Pownal Tannery, Pownal, VT, and W. J. Cowee, Co., Inc. in Berlin, NY. Her hobbies included flowering, gardening and baking pies for many in the area.
Survivors, besides her husband, include her children, Peter A. Jones of North Petersburgh, Gary W. and Joyce Maxfield Jones of Cherry Plain, NY, Edward E. and wife Michelle Jones of Petersburgh, Brian N. and wife Tracie Jones of White Creek, NY, Tammy L. and husband Ed Spizowski of Florida, Sandy L. Betit of Petersburgh, Michael W. and Carrie Chaplin Jones and Alric W. “Ricky” Jones, all of North Petersburgh, a sister, Alice Boesse of Petersburgh, 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is pre-deceased by a grandson, Kyle Jones, a sister, Loretta Auernig, and her twin brother, Jay B. Thomas Jr.
Funeral services were on Thursday, May 10, at 1 pm in the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home, 66 Armsby Road, Petersburgh, where Rev. Gaylord “Jake” Campbell officiated. Burial followed in the Berlin Baptist Cemetery. Relatives and friends were invited to the funeral home for visitation on Thursday from 11 am to 12:45 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Petersburgh Rescue Squad in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 361, Petersburgh, NY, 12138.
