Camilla F. Cottrell

Ipswich, MA/Hoosick – Camilla F. (Stevens) Cottrell, 96, formerly of Pittsfield, MA, died Sunday, May 13, 2012, in the Essex Park Rehabilitation Center, Beverly, MA, following complications from a fall. She was the wife of the late Ernest Gordon Cottrell, who died in 1967.
Born on a farm in Potter Hill, Hoosick, NY, she was the daughter of Frank and Ethel (Whittle) Stevens. She attended Walter A. Wood High School in Hoosick Falls, NY, and, upon graduating, entered Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY, as a nursing student. Following graduation in 1937 she and her husband married and began their family in Pittsfield.
Mrs. Cottrell was an excellent seamstress and taught at the YWCA in Pittsfield. For many years she was employed by the Elise Farrar Dress Shoppe in Lenox, MA. She took pride in her home but enjoyed traveling.
She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Pittsfield and the Immanuel Baptist Church in Ipswich, MA.
Mrs. Cottrell is survived by two children and their spouses, Steven and Beverly (Baker) Cottrell of Ipswich and Natalie and John Gleason of St. James, NY, five grandchildren, John Gleason, Mark Cottrell, Amy Gleason, Bethany Continuo and Naomi Cottrell, a brother, Elwin Stevens of Troy, NY, a sister-in-law, Emmajane Cottrell of Hoosick, and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Cottrell’s funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, June 2, preceded by an hour of visitation from 10 to 11 am in the First Baptist Church, 88 South Street, Pittsfield, followed by burial in the Maplewood Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Her work is done, rest in peace.
