It’s that time of year again, when the Berlin Beautification Committee (BBC) plants gladioli all along Rt. 22 in Berlin. If any Berlin resident is interested in planting their own gladioli on their property, we would like to time it so that everything is blooming at once. This year, we are planting the bulbs Wednesday and Thursday, May 23 and 24.
Yellow Glads In Remembrance Of A Disaster
This is also Berlin’s 50th anniversary of the Propane Truck Disaster on Plank Road that killed 10 people and destroyed homes and a church and burned acres of land. In honor of the 50th year, the BBC will be planting 50 yellow gladioli in different spots around town in acknowledgement of the people who lost their lives, their homes and of those who assisted in the effort to bring the fire under control and help anyone in need.
Adopt A Barrel
The BBC will also be planting the whiskey barrels this year. We are looking for residents to “Adopt a Barrel” and be responsible for the watering and care of their barrel. There will be three placed on Main Street, one at the Post Office, one at the Fire Department, one each on Community and Park Avenues and one on Elm Street. Anyone interested in adopting a barrel should contact Rebekah Hartman, Chair of the Berlin Beautification Committee, at 658 0718.
