Hoosick and Hoosick Falls made the airwaves last Friday, May 11, when WGNA’s Sean and Richie Show broadcast live from the Falls Diner. Fans turned out to greet them and spend time listening to the show. The Diner was jumpin’! Hoosick Falls was chosen as the first site to visit in May on the program’s Small Town Tour. [private]Folks were also encouraged to vote on line for the Citizen of the Year. Over 180 votes were submitted and the winner was Bill Gaillard. Aelish Nealon, Louis Schmigel and George Villarini were the other worthy candidates. Hoosick Falls Mayor Matt Monahan was on hand when Gaillard received his award.

Of course the big hit was Richie Phillips’ song about the town. It was put together from comments folks sent to him. An additional delight was the song he put together with Mrs. Gardner’s second grade class at HFCS. Both songs aired the day of the broadcast. All in all, it was a fun morning. Fans got to meet the celebrities, and they put a great spin on Hoosick Falls. Photos of the morning and the second grade class are on the Sean and Richie website, along with the two songs. The lyrics are published below.

Well it was hard rhymin’ all this information, but it sure was fun (and nothing could be finer than a breakfast at Falls Diner)
It’s a place you associate with Grandma Moses and the Battle of Bennington
Not true in fact it was actually fought in Walloomsac
Once a year I hear all the businesses in town they all close down
and go to the Carrier Dome to watch their team play ball (football)
This is a place called Hoosick – Hoosick Falls
Pizza Bella, Big Moose Deli and Weebs Fish Fry, they’re all in town (and to bring food in – we shop at the “Union”),
The town’s iconic but ironically the Falls are nowhere to be found
(and this is pretty neat, there’s no churches on Church Street)
and the folks here aren’t ashamed of their rather odd nicknames
like Coggy, Squeaky, Snooky, Wiggy, Slug and Admiral,
Buggers, Pockets, Toots and Wingnut live in Hoosick Falls
They’ve got a real cool community pool, tennis courts and skating rink
(and a Senior Center, none treats them better)
Don’t need to drive far to Ferrara’s and the Sandbar
where you can have your favorite drink
they’ve got it all, this is a place called Hoosick – Falls
Every summer they go to the park gazebo to hear the community band
You know Wayne Trimm, you might not know him
the greatest wildlife painter in the land
and the Eberle Brothers, they are all from Hoosick Falls
No matter what the weather, they all stick together – this is Hoosick Falls
Song Created By Hoosick Falls Second Grade

Welcome to Hoosick falls
we don’t have any malls,
We have lots of little stores,
Bianca’s, Thorpe’s and so much more
We welcome you with open arms,
To see our landscapes and our farms
At the youth center you can play,
In fact you can stay all day
(they close at 6)
The band plays in Wood Park
we run around in the dark
admission doesn’t cost a dime
for the festival in the summertime
So come to Hoosick Falls
you’re guaranteed to have a ball
We’re the kids from Hoosick Falls school
Now it’s time to go to the pool
