Lois C. Manchester

Petersburgh – Lois Case Manchester, 82, of Manchester Road, Petersburgh, NY, died on Monday morning, May 14, 2012, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY. She was the wife of the late Neil M. Manchester, who died on December 4, 2011.
Born in Cambridge, NY, on January 10, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Nathan and Dorothy Lacy Case. Lois and Neil were married in Hoosick Falls, NY, on February 11, 1951, and lived in Petersburgh since.
A 1947 graduate of Walter A. Wood High School in Hoosick Falls, where she was class Valedictorian, Lois did domestic work and raised her family in her early years. She then worked for the United States Postal Service as a clerk for almost 50 years before retiring. While there she would answer all of the Santa Claus mail received at the Post Office. She loved crafts, scrapbooks, and she made many Christmas stockings for members of the community through the years. Lois was a member of the Petersburgh Baptist Church, the Home Bureau and Women’s Club. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Lois is survived by her children, Amy E. Manchester of Petersburgh, Beth E. Manchester of Pittstown, NY, and Gregory and wife Colleen Manchester of Petersburgh, her grandsons, Darel Gregory Manchester and Corey Neil Manchester, and her great-granddaughter, Allie Elizabeth Manchester. She is pre-deceased by siblings, John, Nate and Albert Case and Betty Niles.
Funeral services will be on Sunday, May 20, at 3 pm in the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home, 66 Armsby Road, Petersburgh, where Rev. J. Mark Norlund will officiate. Interment will follow in the Meadowlawn Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to the funeral home for visitation on Sunday from noon until the start of the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Petersburgh Rescue Squad in memory of Lois C. Manchester.
