Mary C. Gorman

Hoosick Falls – Mary C. Gorman, 96, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Hoosick Falls, NY. A native and longtime resident of Hoosick Falls, she was born on March 23, 1916. She attended the Hoosick Falls School system where she was an avid student and enjoyed playing basketball.
Mary was the daughter of the late Frank and Angela (Gulli) Carelli. She is pre-deceased by her brothers, Dominick, Joseph, James and John, and her sister, Angeline Carelli. She was the widow of William E. Gorman, whom she married on January 12, 1947. They were married for fifty-four years.
Mary is survived by two sons, William P. Gorman and Dr. James F. Gorman and his wife Kate, and a daughter, Mary Angelia Azad. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Emma and Tedy Gorman, several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, a great-grandniece, great-grandnephews and a sister-in-law, Evelyn P. Carelli.
She worked at various businesses in the Village and retired from Oak Industries in 1980. During the course of her lifetime she was very active. Mary was Vice President and member of the former Saint Mary’s Academy Home & Association, Saint Mary’s Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary and Catholic Daughters of America. As a member and past Vice President of the Hoosick Falls Health Center Auxiliary, she was the weekly bingo caller. She was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church, where she and her husband Bill were Eucharistic Ministers.
Some of her hobbies included painting, stenciling, crocheting and sewing. But, above all, Mary enjoyed time with her family.
Funeral services are Friday, May 18, at 11:30 am from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, in Hoosick Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial is to be offered at 12 noon from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.
