Norma H. Cunningham

Hoosick Falls – Norma H. Cunningham, 83, passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2012, at the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation at Hoosick Falls. She formerly resided on Carey Avenue in Hoosick Falls, NY, and was the wife of Carl F. Cunningham, who died July 8, 2011.
Born on March 2, 1929, in Hoosick Falls, Norma was the daughter of the late Merritt and Gladys (Howe) Tilley Sr. She was educated at schools in Hoosick Falls, at Russell Sage College, graduating in 1950, and at The College of St. Rose, where she received training in special education. Norma started her teaching career in a one room school house in the Hoosick Falls area. She also taught at the Hoosick Falls Central School for many years and was instrumental in starting the special education program at the school.
Survivors include her brother, Merritt Tilley Jr. of Willington, DE, her nephews, Scott Tilley of Los Altos, CA, Merritt Tilley III of Willington, Tom Cunningham of Sarasota, FL, and Brian and Alan Scott, both of Oregon, as well as good friends, Robin and William Marcoux of Hoosick Falls.
Funeral services were Wednesday, May 9, at 11 am from St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will be at the Gerald B.H. Solomon/Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY. Relatives and friends called at the Church on Wednesday from 9:30 am until the start of the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Second Chance Animal Shelter through the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090, who are handling the arrangements.
